What is Opensend Revive and how do I use it?

An email in your subscriber list has started bouncing...have you lost them forever? Not anymore! With Opensend Revive, we'll give you up-to-date, active email addresses for your subscribers.

What is Opensend Revive?

Opensend Revive is a service to provide up-to-date email addresses for your subscribers where the existing email in your system has started bouncing / become undeliverable.

There will be two ways to revive email addresses - as an initial batch (or batches, if you want to spread out the cost), which is currently available, and as an automated, ongoing integration (coming soon!) to revive emails as soon as they start bouncing.

What contacts are good candidates to be revived?

Subscribers in the your email system who were active within the last two years, but have since gone dark are good candidates to be revived.

Good candidates for revival include, in order of priority:

  • People who have made a purchase in the past and the email is now bouncing or undeliverable
  • People who were subscribed in the past and the email is now bouncing or undeliverable

Prioritize more recently active emails over older ones, if you plan to revive in smaller batches.

How do I upload a list of emails to Opensend for revival?

Email lists can be added manually to Opensend, as described below.

  1. Go to the “Email revive” tab from Opensend Dashboard
  2. Click on “CSV Upload”
  3. Click on "Upload a file" and add the file with emails you want Opensend to Revive.
Note: The input needs to be in CSV format with header, should contain only one column email and should not have a size over 100MB
  4. Add a comment and click "Save"
  5. You will now see, with the following details:
    1. Total emails (the number of emails in your CSV)
    2. New emails (the number of emails in the CSV file minus any previously submitted emails that were already revived)
    3. Price per email (the price will go down at higher volumes)
    4. Estimated revived emails (an estimate of how many emails we'll be able to revive)
    5. Estimated cost  (the final cost will be based on the number of emails actually revived - you will not be charged until processing is complete and you choose to pay)
  6. Assuming you accept the estimated cost, click "Process"
  7. Now you can see the emails requested are being revived by Opensend, as soon as the processing is complete you will receive confirmation via email

How do I make the payment and access revived emails by Opensend?

  1. Go to the “Email revive” tab from Opensend Dashboard
  2. Click on “CSV Upload”

  3. Click "Pay"
  4.  Select the payment method and Click "Purchase"
  5. Click Download to get the result file with revived emails

  6. The downloaded csv file will contain two columns:
    1. email (the email addressed you submitted to revive)
    2. revive (the revived email address for the contact from Opensend)

How do I upload Opensend revived contacts to my CRM/ESP?

  1. Take the downloaded CSV from Opensend and prepare it for upload. The column titled "email" is the original email you provided, and the "revive" column is the updated email. Unless your CRM/ESP supports 'updates' via import (most do not), remove the "email" column so that you are importing the "revive" column as a new set of contacts

  2. We recommend adding a column for tag/identifier/source to identify Opensend Revived contacts, so that you can measure performance of your outreach to revived emails. Add a new column in the sheet e.g. "tag" with a value of "Opensend-Revive" for all rows
    1. If you want to track Opensend revived contacts separately from general Opensend contacts we suggest creating a new list on your CRM for revived contacts and upload the csv there.
  3. Finally, upload your Opensend revived contacts sheet in your CRM/ESP. Here are guides from few platforms on how to upload contacts via csv:
    1. Klaviyo
    2. Iterable
    3. Braze
    4. Hubspot
    5. Constant Contact
